By 2016 the Ultra Classic had settled into its Rushmore-era form, still powered by the Twin Cam 103 and still running the Boom! Box 6.5 GT as its top-shelf radio. The touchscreen held up well against the competition at the time, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto simply weren't options Harley offered on any touring radio that model year. No Factory CarPlay — GTS Swap or Aftermarket
The 2016 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic ran the factory Boom! Box 6.5 GT — no factory CarPlay or Android Auto. Two ways to add it: swap to a 2019–2023 Boom! Box GTS and add a HogPlay GTS Bypass for wireless CarPlay, or fit an aftermarket CarPlay radio (SoundStream, Rockford Fosgate, Boss, Diamond Audio, Aquatic AV). Either way a HogPlay Media Box adds Netflix, YouTube and streaming and a Piglet adds Mirror Link and AirPlay. No headset bypass required.

The 2016 Ultra Classic sat at the tail end of the Twin Cam 103 era for this platform, still wearing the Rushmore-style fairing and saddlebags and still running the Boom! Box 6.5 GT as its factory touchscreen. It was a genuinely good radio for 2016 - responsive screen, usable menus - but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were never on the feature list, on this bike or any other Harley that year. Riders who want their phone's navigation, music, and messages mirrored onto the dash have to add that capability separately.
Dropping in an aftermarket touchscreen from Aquatic AV or SoundStream covers most of that ground in one step, since these radios typically arrive with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto already onboard - and because it's a self-contained aftermarket radio, there's no headset bypass involved. The other option is moving up to a 2019-2023 GTS radio and adding a HogPlay CarPlay bypass adaptor to unlock its factory CarPlay and USB port (Android Auto isn't included in what the bypass unlocks on its own).
From there, a HogPlay Media Box brings in Android Auto along with Netflix, YouTube, YouTube Music, and podcasts, streamed off an SD card or USB drive with no phone data used. A USB Piglet works the other direction, adding Android Auto plus Mirror Link and AirPlay so your phone's own screen gets mirrored across. A bar-mounted Media Screen is available too, though on a 2016 Ultra Classic that already has a working head unit, most riders find it simpler to just upgrade the radio.
