What is an aftermarket radio, and how is it different from a factory bypass?
An aftermarket radio is a complete replacement head unit that swaps out your Harley’s factory radio entirely, so you get wireless Apple CarPlay and (on most brands) Android Auto built right in — no bypass or unlock required. I want Android Auto on an Aquatic, Boss, or Rockford Fosgate radio — is that possible?
Yes. Aquatic AV, Boss, and Rockford Fosgate ship with native wireless Apple CarPlay only, but adding a HogPlay Piglet gives that same screen Android Auto, Mirror Link, and AirPlay too.
Do all five aftermarket brands support Apple CarPlay?
Yes — every aftermarket radio we carry (SoundStream, Diamond Audio, Aquatic AV, Boss, and Rockford Fosgate) includes native wireless Apple CarPlay out of the box. The difference between brands comes down to Android Auto: built in on SoundStream and Diamond, added via a Piglet on the other three.
Do I need a CarPlay bypass to run an aftermarket radio?
No. A bypass is only for unlocking the factory-installed radio on a GTS or Skyline bike. An aftermarket radio physically replaces your factory unit, so CarPlay and Android Auto work natively from the new screen with no bypass involved.
Will an aftermarket radio fit my 2024 or newer Harley?
Not currently. Aftermarket drop-in radios fit pre-Skyline touring models only. 2024+ standard touring, 2023.5+ CVO, and 2026+ trikes run Harley’s Skyline electronics on an A2B audio bus that has no aftermarket drop-in replacement yet — on those bikes, a Skyline factory bypass is your CarPlay path.
Which model years can actually take an aftermarket radio?
Any pre-Skyline touring Harley — roughly 1999 through 2023 standard touring, and CVO through 2023.5 — can accept an aftermarket drop-in radio. Run your exact year, model, and trim through the fitment finder to confirm your specific bike before you buy.

Should I get an aftermarket radio or just bypass my factory unit?
If your bike already has a GTS or Skyline factory radio with CarPlay locked behind a paired headset, a factory bypass is usually the simpler, cheaper fix. If your bike predates factory CarPlay (2018 and older) and you want a modern touchscreen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, an aftermarket radio is the way to get there.
My Harley has an older radio with no CarPlay at all — what are my options?
You have two paths: install an aftermarket radio from this hub to fully replace the factory unit, or keep your factory radio and add a bar-mounted HogPlay Media Screen alongside it. Check Factory Radios for more on the older-radio landscape.

Can I add a HogPlay Media Box to an aftermarket radio?
Yes. A HogPlay Media Box can layer on streaming apps and extra media options for any of these aftermarket radios, on top of the CarPlay and Android Auto they already run.
What's the difference between adding a Piglet and adding a Media Box to my new radio?
Does installing an aftermarket radio mean removing my factory unit?
Yes — an aftermarket radio is a full swap; your factory head unit comes out and the new one goes in its place, using your existing fairing opening. That’s different from a bypass, which leaves the factory radio installed and simply unlocks it.
How do I pick the right aftermarket radio for my bike?
