The 2016 Road Glide Ultra kept the shark-nose fairing riders trusted for stability and the Ultra-level Tour-Pak and saddlebag capacity for real touring miles. Its Boom! Box 6.5 GT touchscreen offered solid audio, CB, and intercom control, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto weren't on Harley's radio menu yet that year. The 2016 Road Glide Ultra is a proven touring platform, and the factory Boom! Box 6.5 GT still does its core job - it just never got Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and no update changes that.
The most direct upgrade is an aftermarket CarPlay radio - SoundStream and Rockford Fosgate both sell fairing-fit units that include wireless CarPlay and Android Auto out of the box. If keeping the factory-style unit matters more, swap in a 2019-2023 GTS radio and add a HogPlay CarPlay bypass adaptor to unlock its built-in CarPlay and USB port.
Either way, a HogPlay Media Box adds Android Auto along with Netflix, YouTube, YouTube Music, and podcast streaming from an SD card or USB drive - no phone data needed for real motorcycle media on the road. A USB Piglet gives you Android Auto plus AirPlay/Mirror Link mirroring in a smaller footprint, and a bar-mounted Media Screen is worth a look if you'd rather add a screen than replace the head unit. No headset bypass is required on the aftermarket-radio path.
