HogPlay closes that gap, giving 2018 Shrine Edition riders a wireless path to both without waiting on Harley to add it.
No Factory CarPlay — GTS Swap or Aftermarket
The 2018 Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited Shrine Edition ran the factory Boom! Box 6.5 GT — no factory CarPlay or Android Auto. Two ways to add it: swap to a 2019–2023 Boom! Box GTS and add a HogPlay GTS Bypass for wireless CarPlay, or fit an aftermarket CarPlay radio (SoundStream, Rockford Fosgate, Boss, Diamond Audio, Aquatic AV). The 2018 Ultra Limited Shrine Edition pairs the standard Ultra Limited's full frame-mount fairing, locking Tour-Pak, and long-haul ergonomics with special-edition badging and finish. Under the fairing sits the Boom! Box 6.5 GT: a 6.5-inch touchscreen with onboard GPS, weather overlays, and a strong stock amplifier — a big step up from earlier Harley radios, but it predates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto entirely, so turn-by-turn phone navigation, calls, and streaming apps never made it into the factory software.
Most 2018 Shrine Edition owners solve this one of two ways. The simplest is dropping in an aftermarket CarPlay radio from a brand like SoundStream, Rockford Fosgate, Boss, Diamond Audio or Aquatic AV — nearly all of them ship with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto already onboard, and since there's no factory headset routing to work around on the aftermarket path, no headset bypass is needed. The other route is swapping the 6.5 GT for a 2019-2023 GTS head unit and adding a HogPlay CarPlay bypass adaptor, which unlocks the GTS's factory CarPlay and USB port (Android Auto still needs to come from elsewhere on that path).
Either way, a HogPlay Media Box layers in Android Auto plus Netflix, YouTube, YouTube Music and podcast streaming, playing off an SD card or USB drive with no phone data burned. Prefer to keep things minimal? A USB Piglet adds Android Auto along with Mirror Link and AirPlay screen mirroring, and if you'd rather mount a second display instead of relying on the head unit, a bar-mounted HogPlay Media Screen is worth a look — though most riders upgrading a bike that already has a screen go straight for the new radio.
