No Factory CarPlay — GTS Swap or Aftermarket
The 2017 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide ran the factory Boom! Box 4.3 — no factory CarPlay or Android Auto. Two ways to add it: swap to a 2019–2023 Boom! Box GTS and add a HogPlay GTS Bypass for wireless CarPlay, or fit an aftermarket CarPlay radio (SoundStream, Rockford Fosgate, Boss, Diamond Audio, Aquatic AV). Like the years around it, the 2017 Electra Glide comes standard with the non-touch Boom! Box 4.3. It's a capable AM/FM and Bluetooth unit, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are absent from its feature set entirely - there's no hidden menu or update that unlocks them.
An aftermarket CarPlay radio is the fastest way around that. Brands like Boss and Diamond Audio build head units to touring-fairing dimensions, and most include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto together right out of the box. If you'd rather keep the styling closer to stock, swap the Boom! Box for a 2019-2023 GTS and add a HogPlay CarPlay bypass adaptor, which unlocks the GTS's own factory CarPlay and USB port.
On either new radio, a Media Box adds Android Auto plus Netflix, YouTube, YouTube Music, and podcasts, playing from an SD card or USB drive with no phone data spent. A USB Piglet is the compact alternative, bringing Android Auto with AirPlay or Mirror Link mirroring, and a bar-mounted Media Screen works well if you're not touching the head unit at all. The aftermarket-radio path needs no headset bypass.
