The 2017 Electra Glide Ultra Classic paired Harley's full touring fairing and hard bags with the Boom! Box 6.5 GT, a touchscreen radio that was genuinely sharp for its era. It still never shipped with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, since neither existed on a factory Harley screen yet. No Factory CarPlay — GTS Swap or Aftermarket
The 2017 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic ran the factory Boom! Box 6.5 GT — no factory CarPlay or Android Auto. Two ways to add it: swap to a 2019–2023 Boom! The 2017 Ultra Classic was Harley's flagship long-hauler, built for interstate miles with a fairing-mounted stereo up front. The Boom! Box 6.5 GT that came with it handled Bluetooth calls and basic phone audio fine, but there was no CarPlay or Android Auto behind that glass, and no software update was ever going to add it.
Most 2017 Ultra Classic owners solve this by swapping in an aftermarket touchscreen from SoundStream, Rockford Fosgate, Boss, Diamond Audio, or Aquatic AV, most of which include wireless CarPlay and Android Auto right on the head unit. No headset bypass is needed for this route, since that requirement only applies to unlocking a factory radio. The alternative is dropping in a 2019-2023 GTS unit and adding a HogPlay CarPlay bypass adaptor, which unlocks the GTS's own factory CarPlay and USB port.
Once that newer radio is in place, a HogPlay Media Box layers on Android Auto plus streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, YouTube Music, and podcasts, playing straight from an SD card or USB drive with no phone data burned. A HogPlay USB Piglet is the lighter option, adding Android Auto plus Mirror Link or AirPlay screen mirroring. A bar-mounted Media Screen exists too, but on a bike that already has a dash-mounted head unit, most 2017 Ultra Classic riders find upgrading that existing screen is the simpler path.
