The 2016 Harley-Davidson Breakout is Softail's factory answer to a pro-street dragster — a stretched 5-gallon tank, chopped fenders, a fat 240mm rear tire, and a low, drag-bar stance riding on a rigid-mounted Twin Cam 103 V-twin. It's built to be seen and heard, not wired for entertainment: like every Breakout, the 2016 model rolled out of Milwaukee with zero factory radio or infotainment. Riders wanting Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on this stripped-down custom have to add it themselves — enter the HogPlay Media Screen.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2016 Harley-Davidson Breakout left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

Underneath the drag-strip styling, the 2016 Breakout is a proper cruiser: a low 26.1-inch seat, forward controls, and that Twin Cam 103 laying down torque low in the rev range for stoplight-to-stoplight pulls. None of that changes when you add HogPlay's 7-inch screen — it clamps to the drag bars in the cockpit, right where a factory display would sit on a bagger. Two wires run to power and ground, tucked behind the headlight nacelle or under the tank, and that's the whole install.
The mount and bracket work either upright or upside-down, so the screen still reads correctly no matter how the bars are set or where it lands on the Breakout's minimalist dash.
The HogPlay Media Screen on a 2016 Breakout runs dual Bluetooth — one channel pairs your phone for wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, the other feeds a handlebar speaker, portable Bluetooth speaker, or auxiliary amp. Its built-in speaker alone handles turn-by-turn voice prompts and light audio. Fully sealed and waterproof, it's rugged enough for a stripped-down custom that never came with a screen from the factory.
