The 2001 Harley-Davidson Softail Standard is the bare-knuckle end of the Softail lineup — blacked-out engine covers, spoked wheels, and a stripped teardrop tank built for riders who want hardtail looks without hardtail punishment. Under that minimalist sheet metal sits the Twin Cam 88, the workhorse big twin that carried the Softail family through the early 2000s. What the Standard never had was a factory stereo of any kind, so bar-mounted CarPlay wasn't even a dream back in 2001. The HogPlay Media Screen fixes that with a clean, bolt-on 7-inch display.

No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen

The 2001 Harley-Davidson Standard left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

We also stock universal parts that fit the 2001 Harley-Davidson Standard and most other motorcycles — standalone CarPlay screens and universal USB power.

About the 2001 Harley-Davidson Standard

Harley built the Softail Standard for buyers who wanted the classic hidden-shock Softail chassis and Twin Cam 88 torque without the extra chrome and touring add-ons of its siblings — a no-frills cruiser that let the frame and motor do the talking. That bare-bones approach means there's no dash real estate for infotainment and no wiring harness anywhere near a screen.

The HogPlay Media Screen solves that by mounting straight to the handlebars, wired directly to power and ground rather than tapping into any factory harness. It reads clean either upright or flipped thanks to the reversible mount, so it fits the Standard's low bars without crowding the gauge or blocking your sightline down that long, stripped fuel tank.

Turn the 2001 Softail Standard into a connected ride with the HogPlay Media Screen. Its dual Bluetooth setup pairs your phone for wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on one channel, while the second feeds an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker. A small built-in speaker covers turn-by-turn voice prompts and light audio on its own. Sealed, waterproof, and built rugged for the elements, it's a lasting fix for the Standard's missing factory radio.
