By 2001 Harley's touring family — Electra Glide, Road King, Road Glide — had settled into a familiar factory radio: AM/FM, a handful of presets, zero digital inputs. Every other model in the range, from Softail to Dyna to Sportster, shipped with an empty dash where a stereo could have gone, sound left entirely up to the rider. That divide would hold steady for well over a decade before Harley changed course.

Getting a 2001 Harley-Davidson onto wireless CarPlay means one of two swaps: an aftermarket CarPlay radio behind the factory faceplate for touring models, or a clamp-on Media Screen for anything that never had a radio bay to begin with. The touring kit reuses the factory speaker wiring rather than replacing it outright, keeping the install simple from the connector all the way to the dash.
