About 2001 Harley-Davidson Road King Models

Harley trimmed the Road King roster down from eight configurations in 2000 to six in 2001, dropping a couple of police variants but keeping the Road King Classic and both FLHR sidecar builds. None of that reshuffling touched the audio hardware — every 2001 Road King still used a compact nacelle-mounted AM/FM tuner, smaller than the fairing-integrated decks on the Street Glide or Road Glide because there's simply less dash real estate to work with.

That smaller footprint is exactly why the Media Screen is the go-to fix here — it mounts to the handlebars above the gauges rather than fighting for space in the nacelle, adding wireless CarPlay and Android Auto cleanly. Riders who'd rather replace the head unit outright can still use an aftermarket CarPlay radio sized for the Road King opening, whether it's going on a Road King Classic or the plain Road King with Sidecar (FLHR).
