The 2001 Harley-Davidson FLHRCI Road King Custom Sidecar combined the blacked-out, wire-wheeled custom stance Harley gave the Road King line with a sidecar-ready chassis — reinforced mounts and adjusted front-end geometry built for stable three-wheel riding. Power came from the fuel-injected Twin Cam 88, its EFI smoothing cold starts and altitude changes years before fuel injection was standard equipment. Like every Road King of the era, it rolled off the line without a fairing or a radio. Add the HogPlay Media Screen and this 2001 Road King Custom finally gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2001 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic with Sidecar (FLHRCI) left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

The Road King Custom trim, introduced for model year 2000, swapped the traditional Road King's chrome and full skirted fenders for a leaner, blacked-out look — staggered dual mufflers, a wide 16-inch front wheel, and low-rise custom bars. This 2001 example carries Harley's factory sidecar prep: heavier motor mounts, revised trail and alignment, and frame reinforcement for running a hack safely at speed, a setup favored by touring riders and sidecar racers of the era.
Mounting the HogPlay Media Screen doesn't disturb any of that sidecar geometry. The 7-inch unit clamps to the handlebar, taps power and ground from the electrical system, and mounts reversibly for stock or low-rise custom bars. No dash cutting, no fairing to modify — just a clean bar-mounted screen bringing wireless CarPlay and Android Auto to a Road King that never came with a radio.
Every HogPlay Media Screen runs dual Bluetooth, so your 2001 Road King Custom Sidecar can pair a phone for wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on one channel while the second feeds an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker. A built-in speaker handles turn-by-turn voice prompts and light audio on its own. Sealed and rugged from the factory, it shrugs off rain, road grit, and sidecar-rig vibration mile after mile.
