The 1999 Harley-Davidson Standard rides at the tail end of the Evolution era — this Softail wears the stripped, no-frills styling that gave the model its name, running the 80-cubic-inch Evolution V-Twin in the last year before Twin Cam power reached the Softail line in 2000. Its hardtail-look frame and blacked-out simplicity came from the factory with no radio and no infotainment of any kind. Bolt on the HogPlay Media Screen and this 1999 Standard gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto instantly.

No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen

The 1999 Harley-Davidson Standard left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

We also stock universal parts that fit the 1999 Harley-Davidson Standard and most other motorcycles — standalone CarPlay screens and universal USB power.

About the 1999 Harley-Davidson Standard

The Softail Standard existed for riders who wanted the classic hardtail silhouette without the extra chrome and touring bulk of its Softail siblings — just the frame, the Evo motor, and the road. Mounting the 7-inch HogPlay Media Screen keeps that stripped-down look intact: the unit clamps to the handlebars, taps a wire into the bike's power and ground, and that's the whole install — no dash to cut into, no fairing to fit around.

Since the mount is reversible, the screen can ride face-up or face-down depending on bar height and riding position, so it slots into the Standard's minimalist stance instead of fighting it.

The HogPlay Media Screen pairs dual Bluetooth so this 1999 Standard can run wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on one channel while feeding an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker on the other. Its small built-in speaker covers turn-by-turn voice prompts and light audio on its own, and the whole unit is fully sealed, waterproof, and rugged enough for whatever weather this stripped-down Softail rides into.
