The 1999 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide with Sidecar is the fuel-injected Electra Glide Ultra Classic built and reinforced from the factory to run a sidecar — stiffer suspension, altered steering geometry, and the extra stability a hack demands. 1999 was also the first year of the Twin Cam 88, the air-cooled big twin that took over touring duty from the Evolution, giving this full-dress FLHTCU/I real muscle for two-up sidecar riding. What it never got was a screen: add the HogPlay Media Screen for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the bars.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 1999 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide with Sidecar (FLHTCUI) left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

Sidecar-prepped Ultra Classics like this one carry a fairing, hard saddlebags, and a Tour-Pak, with a frame and suspension tuned to handle the pull of a third wheel — the "/I" in FLHTCU/I means fuel injection feeds that new-for-'99 Twin Cam 88, smoothing out low-speed throttle response when you're hauling extra weight through turns. None of that touring hardware came with a way to run a phone.
The HogPlay Media Screen mounts to the handlebars in the rider's line of sight, wires straight to a switched power source and ground, and takes minutes to install — no dash cutting, no fairing surgery. It's fully reversible, so a stock-minded Ultra Classic Electra Glide with Sidecar owner can pull it later and leave the touring rig exactly as Harley built it.
Built for a sidecar rig that lives outdoors as much as it rides, the HogPlay Media Screen is fully sealed and waterproof, so weather is never a concern for a 1999 FLHTCU/I Sidecar. Dual Bluetooth pairs your phone for wireless CarPlay or Android Auto on one channel while feeding an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker on the other, and a small built-in speaker covers turn-by-turn voice prompts and light audio.
