The 1999 Harley-Davidson Softail Custom closed out an era: it was the final model year the Softail line ran the original Evolution 1340 engine before the counter-balanced Twin Cam 88B took over for 2000. Stretched-out lines, pulled-back bars, forward controls, and a low, chromed custom stance made this bike a favorite for riders chasing an old-school cruiser look backed by dependable Evo torque. What the 1999 Custom never had was a factory radio, so we built the fix: the 7-inch HogPlay Media Screen, bar-mounted with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The 1999 Harley-Davidson Custom left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. Harley built the Softail Custom to look like a hardtail chopper while riding on modern rear suspension hidden under the frame rails — long front end, low seat height, and a lean, minimal fender package gave it real custom-shop presence right off the showroom floor. Under the tank, the 1999 Evolution 1340 delivered the smooth, torquey pull Harley riders had trusted since the mid-1980s, right before the Twin Cam era began.
Adding a HogPlay Media Screen to this Custom is a straightforward bolt-on: the unit clamps to the handlebars in place of a factory gauge or accessory mount, wires to a switched power source and ground, and pairs wirelessly with your phone. No dash cutting, no fairing modifications — and the mount reverses for left- or right-side viewing angles to suit your riding position.
Built for the 1999 Softail Custom's exposed, open-air ride, the HogPlay Media Screen is fully sealed and waterproof, engineered to shrug off rain, dust, and vibration mile after mile.
