The 1999 Harley-Davidson 1200 Sport was the sharpened edge of the Sportster line — dual front discs, adjustable Showa suspension, and a solid-mounted Evolution 1200 (1,202cc) tuned for back-road feel rather than boulevard cruising. It's a rider's Sportster, built to be leaned on. What it never got was a stereo: bare bars, no radio, nothing. Bolt on the 7-inch HogPlay Media Screen and this 1999 1200 Sport finally gets sound and navigation to match its handling.

No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen

The 1999 Harley-Davidson 1200 Sport left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

We also stock universal parts that fit the 1999 Harley-Davidson 1200 Sport and most other motorcycles — standalone CarPlay screens and universal USB power.

About the 1999 Harley-Davidson 1200 Sport

Harley aimed the 1200 Sport at riders who wanted a Sportster that could actually carve corners — firmer suspension, better brakes, less chrome, more purpose. The 1999 model carries that same stripped, functional attitude, which is exactly why it never shipped with any kind of audio or infotainment. There was nowhere designed for it and no reason for it, back then.

The HogPlay Media Screen fixes that without disturbing the bike's lean stance. It clamps to the bars where you'd expect a gauge cluster extension, taps into power and ground only — no dash splicing, no fairing cutting — and streams music, calls, and turn-by-turn through wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto via its built-in speaker. Since it's a bar-mount unit, removal is just as simple as install if you ever want the cockpit bare again.

One of the earliest sport-suspension Sportsters, the 1999 1200 Sport set the template for a firmer-riding 1200, and the HogPlay Media Screen brings that same purposeful approach to modern navigation and audio. It runs dual Bluetooth at once — your phone connected wirelessly for CarPlay or Android Auto, and simultaneously an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker. A small built-in speaker still delivers turn-by-turn voice prompts solo without a second pairing. Fully sealed and waterproof, the rugged housing is built for the Evolution 1200's exposed, all-weather riding character.
