2020 Road King & Road King Special CarPlay Upgrades

The 2020 Road King and its blacked-out sibling, the Road King Special, strip touring bikes down to a bare-bones profile, but Harley still bolts on the Boom!Box GTS screen — and that means the same headset-only CarPlay limitation found across the rest of the 2020 touring range.

About 2020 Harley-Davidson Road King Models

Stripped fairings and a minimalist look do not change what is under the tank: both the Road King and Road King Special use the Boom!Box GTS infotainment system, which sends Apple CarPlay to a paired Bluetooth headset instead of the dash and skips Android Auto entirely. For riders who bought a Road King specifically to keep things simple, having to fumble with headset pairing for turn-by-turn directions defeats the purpose.

A CarPlay bypass adaptor combined with a Media Box puts wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto directly on the Boom!Box GTS touchscreen on either bike. Read our Boom!Box GTS radio guide for the full picture of what is stock and what needs upgrading.
