2020 Harley-Davidson & Indian CarPlay Guide

2020 put two very different CarPlay stories side by side: a Harley-Davidson Boom! Box GTS that gates CarPlay behind a paired headset, and a Indian Ride Command that offers CarPlay but no Android Auto at all — over USB only. Neither is a clean plug-and-play experience.

About 2020 Motorcycles

Harley's 2019-style Boom! Box GTS continued into 2020 with CarPlay technically supported but functionally locked behind a Bluetooth headset pairing most riders never bother with. Indian's 2020 touring lineup — Chieftain, Roadmaster, Springfield — ran the 7-inch Ride Command screen instead, with wired CarPlay support but no Android Auto whatsoever, a gap Harley didn't share and Indian never closed on its own.

A 2020 Harley-Davidson GTS unlocks headset-free CarPlay with a bypass adaptor and Media Box, while a 2020 Indian Ride Command gets wireless CarPlay and, finally, Android Auto through a USB-C bypass. Both kits are plug-in installs that leave the factory dash and switchgear untouched, so the stock look stays intact once the wiring's tucked away behind the fairing.
