The 2019 Forty-Eight Special pairs the Evolution 1200 with wide 16-inch front rubber and bare, blacked-out bars - Harley never ran a wire for a radio or a screen anywhere on this dash. No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2019 Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight Special left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. The Forty-Eight Special takes the stripped-down Forty-Eight stance - fat front tire, mini apes, low seat - and adds a bit more chrome and comfort, all riding on the air-cooled Evolution 1200. What it does not add is a gauge cluster with a screen or any kind of infotainment; the cockpit is just a speedo and a switch housing, exactly as Harley built it.
That blank dash is exactly why riders reach for a phone-mirroring solution once they want turn-by-turn nav, hands-free calls, or their own music library up front instead of stuffed in a pocket. On a bike with zero factory radio, there is no head unit to fight with or swap out - you are simply adding capability that never existed.
The HogPlay Media Screen is built for exactly this situation: a self-contained 7-inch display that clamps to the handlebars, wires straight to power and ground, and runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on its own - no factory radio required because there is none to tap into. Choose the version with built-in speakers for sound straight off the bars, or step up to the DVR model for the same CarPlay and Android Auto plus continuous ride recording. Either way, Bluetooth audio in and out means the screen can also stream to a portable Bluetooth speaker or feed an amplifier and speaker setup you add later.
