The 2008 Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special (ABS) is the drag-inspired power cruiser that broke from Harley tradition — blacked-out finishes, a stretched wheelbase, and a liquid-cooled 1250cc Revolution V-Twin borrowed from the V-Rod line, tuned for low-end torque and a distinct exhaust note. Factory ABS adds stopping confidence without softening the bike's aggressive stance. Like every V-Rod variant, it left the factory with no radio or infotainment of any kind — the HogPlay Media Screen fixes that with a clean, bar-mounted 7-inch touchscreen built for wireless Apple CarPlay.

No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen

The 2008 Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special (ABS) (VRSCDXA) left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

We also stock universal parts that fit the 2008 Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special (ABS) (VRSCDXA) and most other motorcycles — standalone CarPlay screens and universal USB power.

About the 2008 Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special (ABS) (VRSCDXA)

Harley built the Night Rod Special to go toe-to-toe on style with metric power cruisers while keeping the torque and sound of a big V-Twin — the 1250cc Revolution engine, low-slung frame, and drag-style bars give the Night Rod Special (ABS) a stance unlike any Softail or Dyna in the lineup. Because the factory never fitted a screen or speaker to this platform, adding modern connectivity means starting from a blank slate.

The HogPlay Media Screen mounts directly to the handlebars, right in your sightline, and wires to a switched power source and ground — no cutting into the wiring harness or splicing beyond those two leads. The housing is reversible, so it reads correctly whether mounted on top of the bars or underneath, keeping the drag-style silhouette intact while adding wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The HogPlay Media Screen gives the 2008 Night Rod Special two Bluetooth channels — one pairs your phone for wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, the other streams to an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker. Its built-in speaker covers turn-by-turn prompts and light audio on its own, and the fully sealed, waterproof housing is rugged enough for the VRSCDXA's low, exposed stance in any weather.
