The 2002 Harley-Davidson FLTR/I paired the Road Glide's frame-mounted fairing and signature dual "shark nose" headlights with a factory sidecar rig, turning the fuel-injected Twin Cam 88 into a stable three-wheel platform built for long-haul touring, police duty, and riders who wanted the extra security of a third wheel. Wind protection was excellent, but the dash held gauges, not electronics, so there was never a way to run modern audio or navigation. That's where the HogPlay Media Screen comes in: a 7-inch bar-mounted display that brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to this 2002 Road Glide sidecar without touching the factory fairing.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2002 Harley-Davidson Road Glide with Sidecar (FLTRI) left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

The FLTR/I's frame-mounted fairing turned with the bars instead of the front wheel, giving the sidecar rig a lower center of gravity and steadier feel at speed than a fork-mounted setup, while the fuel-injected Twin Cam 88 delivered smoother, more consistent power than the carbureted FLTR beside it on the showroom floor. Sidecar duty asked a lot of the rider - constant steering input, extra vigilance in traffic - and having turn-by-turn directions and music on hand made those long three-wheel miles easier to manage.
Installing the HogPlay Media Screen on this 2002 FLTR/I doesn't require cutting into the fairing or splicing into the stock wiring harness. It clamps to the handlebars in clear view, runs off a simple power and ground connection, and mounts in either orientation, so it fits cleanly whether the rider prefers the screen upright or angled for the sidecar riding position.
Every HogPlay Media Screen built for a 2002 Road Glide FLTR/I sidecar runs dual Bluetooth, so the rider's phone connects wirelessly for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on one channel while a second channel feeds an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker riding along in the sidecar. A small built-in speaker handles turn-by-turn prompts and light audio on its own when a bigger sound setup isn't in play. The housing is fully sealed and waterproof, engineered to shrug off rain, road grime, and everything else a sidecar rig sees on a long haul.
