The 2000 Harley-Davidson 1200 sits in the last generation of solid-mounted Sportsters — before Harley rubber-mounted the engine into the chassis in 2004, so its air-cooled Evolution 1200 (1,202cc) V-twin bolts straight to the frame and sends every pulse of the motor into the bars and pegs. It's Sportster stripped to basics, a bike built around the ride itself rather than electronics. What it never had from the factory is a stereo — no radio, no screen, just bare bars — which is exactly where the HogPlay Media Screen steps in.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2000 Harley-Davidson 1200 left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

This base 1200 predates the 2004 rubber-mount redesign that smoothed out later Sportsters, so its character leans more raw and mechanical, especially once the revs climb on the highway. It's a bike built for feel, not for options — which is exactly why so many owners end up adding their own.
Mounting the HogPlay Media Screen doesn't disturb any of that simplicity. The 7-inch display clamps to the existing handlebars — no dash to cut, no fairing to fabricate — and wires to just power and ground, tying into the bike's existing electrical system. Once mounted, it runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through its own built-in speaker, and the whole install reverses cleanly if the bars ever need to go back to bare.
The added torque of the 2000 1200 comes with the same bare-bones electronics as the rest of the Sportster line, and the HogPlay Media Screen fills that gap without a full rewire. Two Bluetooth channels run at the same time: one links to your phone for wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, the other pairs to an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker. A compact built-in speaker covers voice prompts and light audio without any external pairing, and the fully sealed, waterproof, rugged housing is rated for the road exposure typical of this Evolution 1200.
