The 1998 Harley-Davidson Night Train introduced a blacked-out, stripped-back take on the Softail line, running the Evolution 1340 under a bare-bones cockpit with no fairing and no factory radio. It was built for a minimalist look, which means there was never a screen to remove or a stereo to upgrade — just an open handlebar. The HogPlay Media Screen mounts right there, wired to power and ground, adding wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to a bike that leaned into simplicity from day one.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 1998 Harley-Davidson Night Train left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

The 1998 Night Train's blacked-out, fairing-free cockpit leaves the handlebar open for a compact accessory mount that fits the bike's stripped-down aesthetic.
The HogPlay Screen clamps to the bar, draws power and ground from the existing wiring, and mounts reversibly so the Night Train's minimalist styling stays untouched.
Keep the 1998 Night Train's blacked-out attitude while adding modern connectivity with the HogPlay Media Screen, a 7-inch handlebar touchscreen for bikes that never had one. Dual Bluetooth channels run one connection to your phone for CarPlay or Android Auto navigation and calls, and a second simultaneously to an aux amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker. A small built-in speaker handles turn-by-turn prompts even solo. The fully sealed, waterproof housing takes the same stripped-down abuse the Night Train was built to shrug off.
