The 1998 Sportster 1200 closed out the decade with the same broad-shouldered Evolution 1200 engine and the same total absence of factory electronics — no screen, no stereo, just a speedometer and warning lights.

The HogPlay Media Screen updates that setup with a 7-inch bar-mounted touchscreen, powered straight off the bike's electrical system, adding wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to a 1998 1200 that never came close to having either.

No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen

The 1998 Harley-Davidson 1200 left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

We also stock universal parts that fit the 1998 Harley-Davidson 1200 and most other motorcycles — standalone CarPlay screens and universal USB power.

About the 1998 Harley-Davidson 1200

The 1200's handlebar and cockpit layout mirror the 883's, so the HogPlay 7-inch Media Screen mounts the same way — clamped to the bar, clear of the factory triple clamp and gauges.

Power and ground wiring routes behind the headlight, and the mount is fully reversible, so the bike goes back to stock in minutes if you ever want it to.

On the 1998 Sportster 1200, the HogPlay Media Screen adds what Harley never did: a real screen. Dual Bluetooth connects to your phone for wireless CarPlay or Android Auto and, separately, to an aux amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker for sound. A small integrated speaker takes care of turn-by-turn prompts even without external audio hooked up. It's housed in a fully sealed, waterproof, rugged shell that can take the same weather the 1200 can.
