None of the three 1997 Road King variants — standard, Police, or FLHRI sidecar — came with a factory stereo. Road King's minimalist styling meant no fairing pocket for a radio, no speakers, and no wiring to build on later, in any of the three configurations.

About 1997 Harley-Davidson Road King Models

Road King's whole design philosophy in 1997 revolved around a lighter, more classic touring silhouette than the Electra Glide or Ultra — no full fairing, and consequently no factory-installed audio system across any of the three listed variants, Police package and sidecar rig included, regardless of trim level or paint scheme chosen at the dealer that model year, Police models included.

With no factory dash to work around, HogPlay fits every 1997 Road King with a bar-mounted Media Screen for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the same solution used on Softail and Dyna models that also skip a factory stereo.
