The 1996 Ultra lineup is Harley's top-shelf touring trim, and it shows in the variant count alone — Tour Glide Ultra Classic, Ultra Classic, the anniversary Shrine 125th ANV, and two sidecar builds. All of them ran a beefed-up factory AM/FM system, still with no CarPlay in sight.

About 1996 Harley-Davidson Ultra Models

Ultra trims got Harley's nicer factory head unit for 1996 — better speakers and a fairing-mounted deck across Tour Glide Ultra Classic, Ultra Classic, Ultra Classic Shrine, and the 125th Anniversary Shrine edition, plus both sidecar variants. It's a step up from the base Electra Glide's audio in output, but the source is identical: AM/FM and cassette, nothing that connects to a phone.

That upgraded speaker setup still runs through a factory deck an aftermarket CarPlay radio can replace directly, unlocking wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through the existing fairing opening and speaker wiring already in place.
