1996 sat squarely in Harley's analog years. Touring models like the Electra Glide and Road King carried a basic factory AM/FM unit built decades before anyone routed a phone through a dash, while Softail, Dyna, and Sportster models rolled off the line with no radio at all — just gauges and a headlight. Wireless CarPlay wasn't on anyone's mind when this bike was built.

Neither gap has closed on its own: a 1996 touring bike still needs an aftermarket CarPlay-ready head unit to get real navigation and music, and a bare-dash Softail or Sportster is better served by a bolt-on 7-inch handlebar Media Screen that adds a display where the factory left an empty triple clamp. Installation on either path is a plug-in job, with nothing about the original wiring harness touched in the process.
