Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle Radios
Headset Bypass Required
A headset bypass is required for any CarPlay, Android Auto or Media Box solution on Honda screens.
Factory CarPlay is locked behind a paired headset — the head unit wants the headset's microphone, so it simply will not run without one paired. The USB port is restricted the same way, which is why a Piglet or a Media Box does nothing on a stock bike no matter what you plug in. A HogPlay headset bypass removes that requirement, so CarPlay and the USB port work without a headset paired. The bypass comes first; everything else depends on it.

Frequently asked questions
What kind of infotainment system does Honda put on its motorcycles?
Honda’s factory touchscreen lives on the Gold Wing lineup — the GL1800 Gold Wing and Gold Wing Tour, both running a 7″ factory display. It’s the only Honda motorcycle platform with built-in smartphone integration from the factory.
Does the Honda Gold Wing come with Apple CarPlay?
Yes — every 2018+ Gold Wing and Gold Wing Tour has factory Apple CarPlay built into the 7″ display. It works right out of the box on any 2018-or-newer model.
Does the Gold Wing have Android Auto too?
Yes, starting with the 2020 model year — Honda added factory Android Auto alongside CarPlay on the Gold Wing and Gold Wing Tour, so 2020+ bikes run both platforms from the factory.
Is the Gold Wing’s CarPlay wireless?
No — factory CarPlay on every Gold Wing year is wired only. Honda has never shipped wireless CarPlay from the factory on this platform, so you’re plugging in a cable every ride unless you upgrade the connection.
Is Android Auto wireless on the Gold Wing?
No — same story as CarPlay. Factory Android Auto on the 2020+ Gold Wing is wired only, with no wireless option built in from Honda on any model year.
What does HogPlay do to fix the wired-only limitation?
Our USB-C bypass plugs into the Gold Wing’s existing USB-C port and unlocks true wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto — your phone stays in your pocket or tank bag and connects automatically every time you start the bike.
Do I need to pair a headset before the bypass works?
No — there’s no paired-headset requirement on the Gold Wing. The bypass simply upgrades your existing wired connection to wireless; it isn’t gated behind a headset pairing step like some other bikes.
Is a USB-A bypass available for older Gold Wings?
A USB-A version of the bypass is coming soon for Gold Wings that use the older port style. Check the bypass collection for the latest availability.

What does a Media Box add to my Gold Wing?
A Media Box adds wireless streaming on top of your CarPlay or Android Auto connection, so music and apps keep playing without a cable running to your phone. Browse the Media Box collection to pick the right one.
I don’t have a Gold Wing — can HogPlay still put CarPlay on my Honda?
If your Honda doesn’t have a factory touchscreen, a bar-mounted HogPlay Media Screen gives you a dedicated CarPlay display without relying on any factory unit. See the Media Screen collection for options.
Which Honda models does the wireless bypass fit?
The USB-C bypass is built for the 2018+ Gold Wing and Gold Wing Tour with the factory 7″ display. Use our fitment finder to confirm the exact match for your year and trim.
What’s a Piglet and does it apply to the Gold Wing?
The Piglet is our compact USB adaptor for bikes needing a mini CarPlay/Android Auto bridge; the Gold Wing’s dedicated bypass is the better match for its factory display. See the Piglet collection if you’re comparing options.
Where can I see full specs and install details for my Gold Wing?
Head to our Gold Wing CarPlay page for year-by-year specs, install notes, and the exact bypass and Media Box options for your bike.
How do I make sure I’m ordering the right part for my Honda?
Run your bike through the fitment finder — it matches your year and model to the correct bypass, Piglet, or Media Box so you don’t guess at compatibility.
Why upgrade a Gold Wing that already has CarPlay and Android Auto?
Because “has it” and “wireless” aren’t the same thing — Honda’s factory setup is wired-only on every year. HogPlay’s bypass removes the cable so you get the same CarPlay and Android Auto you already have, just untethered.
