2023 marked the Sport Chief's debut in Indian's cruiser line, pairing flat-track-inspired styling — moto bars, a gunfighter seat, dual piggyback shocks and a quarter fairing — with the air-cooled Thunder Stroke 116 V-twin. Despite the aggressive quarter fairing up front, the launch-year bike carries no factory touchscreen at all; Indian left the cockpit to a single analog gauge. A HogPlay 7-inch CarPlay and Android Auto screen slots into that empty real estate, bringing navigation, calls and streaming through its own built-in speakers — no dealer visit, no cutting, and it comes off just as easily as it went on.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2023 Indian Sport Chief left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. The debut-year 2023 Sport Chief launched in four factory finishes — Black Smoke, Ruby Smoke, Stealth Gray and Spirit Blue Smoke — riding on the same air-cooled Thunder Stroke 116 that powers the rest of the Chief family. Its quarter fairing and moto-bar cockpit borrow flat-track cues, but there's no wiring behind that fairing for a screen; Indian never fitted the Sport Chief with a touchscreen or factory Apple CarPlay, and there's no factory USB port either, just an under-seat accessory outlet. HogPlay's 7-inch CarPlay and Android Auto screen mounts up front with its own built-in speakers, so sound doesn't depend on adding a separate amp, and it draws power the same way any accessory would — through that under-seat outlet, fully reversible if you ever go back to stock.
The HogPlay Media Screen on the 2023 Indian Sport Chief runs a dual-Bluetooth design — pair your phone for wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on one channel while the other feeds an auxiliary amplifier, handlebar speakers or a portable Bluetooth speaker.
