| Engine | Milwaukee-Eight 107 |
| Factory head unit | No factory options — HogPlay Screen recommended |
| Factory USB location | None |
The 2017 Harley-Davidson Road King marked a turning point for this classic tourer — the first year Harley dropped the all-new Milwaukee-Eight 107 into the Road King, delivering smoother power, better cooling, and stronger low-end torque than the outgoing Twin Cam while the bike kept the timeless big-windshield, hard-saddlebag silhouette that's defined it since 1994. What the 2017 Road King never got from the factory, new engine or not, is a screen. No infotainment, no CarPlay, no Android Auto — just add the HogPlay Media Screen.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2017 Harley-Davidson Road King left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

The Road King has always been Harley's stripped-down touring statement: a detachable windshield, leather-wrapped hard saddlebags, and spoked wheels in place of the full fairing bodywork you'd find on a Street Glide or Road Glide, giving the 2017 model's new Milwaukee-Eight room to breathe out front in the open air. That bare-bones cockpit is exactly why it never came with a factory screen — and exactly why the HogPlay Media Screen bolts on so cleanly.
The 7-inch unit mounts right to the handlebars, taps into a switched power source and ground, and installs fully reversible, so nothing about the stock wiring or classic dash gets permanently altered. Once it's on, the 2017 Road King finally gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto it never shipped with.
Every HogPlay Media Screen runs dual Bluetooth, so a 2017 Road King rider can pair a phone for wireless CarPlay or Android Auto on one channel while feeding a second — an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker — on the other. A built-in speaker handles turn-by-turn voice prompts and light audio on its own, and the whole unit is sealed, waterproof, and rugged enough for whatever the road throws at it.
