The 2013 Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special is the factory's drag-strip alter ego — a blacked-out power cruiser built around the liquid-cooled Revolution 1250 V-Twin co-developed with Porsche, stretched low over a 240mm rear tire with forward controls and murdered-out finishes everywhere chrome would normally go. It's the most aggressive, least traditional ride in the Harley lineup, and true to form it left the factory with zero radio or infotainment. Add the HogPlay Media Screen and this Night Rod finally gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to match its attitude.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2013 Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special (VRSCDX) left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

Underneath the drag-bike stance, the 2013 Night Rod Special runs the 60-degree, fuel-injected Revolution 1250 engine that made the V-Rod family famous for revving like nothing else in the Motor Company's catalog — smooth, high-output, and a world apart from the air-cooled big twins. Harley never fit it with a stereo, leaving riders with nothing but engine note and wind for company.
The HogPlay Media Screen fixes that without disturbing the Night Rod's low, minimalist lines. The 7-inch display mounts to the handlebar, taps into power and ground, and is fully reversible so it can be flipped to suit riding position or removed cleanly if you ever sell the bike. No dash cutting, no fairing to fabricate — just a clean bar-mount screen that brings modern navigation and phone connectivity to a bike that was never meant to have either.
Every HogPlay Media Screen we spec for a 2013 VRSCDX Night Rod Special runs dual Bluetooth, so one channel pairs your phone for wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto while the second feeds an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker. A small built-in speaker keeps turn-by-turn prompts and light audio audible even with nothing else wired in. The housing is fully sealed and waterproof, rugged enough to handle whatever the elements throw at this Night Rod on the highway.
