About 2012 Motorcycles
2012 marked one of the last full model years before Harley's Boom! Box touchscreen arrived, and the touring lineup showed it: a basic AM/FM head unit, Harman/Kardon speakers as the only real option, and no hint of the digital dash that was coming. Softail, Dyna, and Sportster models had no factory stereo at all that year, same as always. Even the touring lineup's flagship trims stopped at better speakers, not a smarter head unit.
A 2012 Harley-Davidson touring bike picks up wireless CarPlay through an aftermarket head unit in place of the old tuner, while Softail, Dyna, and Sportster owners add a Media Screen to the handlebars instead. The touring swap keeps any Harman/Kardon speakers wired in, while the handlebar screen runs off a simple accessory tap without touching the rest of the electrical system.
