The 2006 Harley-Davidson Standard was the no-frills Softail — blacked-out covers, minimal chrome, and a stripped-down attitude built around the hidden rear shocks that keep the classic hardtail look. It closed out the Twin Cam 88B era, the counter-balanced big twin Harley reserved for Softail frames before the 96B took over in 2007. Bare-bones by design, the Standard shipped with a speedometer and nothing else — no factory radio, no infotainment — so riders wanting music and navigation on the road need an add-on. The HogPlay Media Screen bolts right to the bars and solves that in an afternoon.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2006 Harley-Davidson Standard left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

Harley trimmed the Standard down to keep the price low and the look clean: solo seat, staggered shorty dual exhaust, minimal badging, and none of the touring extras — which means there's no dash real estate eaten up by a factory stereo to work around. That makes it one of the easier Softail models to add modern connectivity to. The HogPlay Media Screen mounts to the handlebars with a simple clamp, taps into a switched power source and ground, and is done — no dash cutting, no fairing modification required.
Because it wires directly rather than through the ignition harness, it's fully reversible if the bike is ever sold or returned to stock, and it turns the Standard's plain cockpit into a real Apple CarPlay and Android Auto setup without touching the bike's minimalist styling.
Every HogPlay Media Screen runs dual Bluetooth, so this 2006 Standard stays paired to your phone for wireless CarPlay or Android Auto on one channel while a second feeds an auxiliary amp, handlebar speaker, or portable Bluetooth speaker. A built-in speaker alone handles turn-by-turn voice prompts and light audio, no extra hardware needed. Sealed, waterproof, and rugged, it shrugs off rain, dust, and vibration on this stripped-down Softail without complaint.
