2006 Harley-Davidson Harman/Kardon CarPlay Guide

2006 is where Harley's touring audio finally got a little better — Harman/Kardon speakers showed up on higher trims of a 2006 Harley-Davidson. Better speakers didn't mean CarPlay, though, and Softail, Dyna, and Sportster models still had no factory radio to speak of. Better sound was never going to bridge that particular gap on its own.

2006 brought the debut of the Street Glide, and with it, higher-trim touring models started carrying Harman/Kardon-branded speakers alongside the same basic AM/FM tuner — louder and clearer, but still just AM/FM. Softail, Dyna, and Sportster models weren't part of that upgrade at all; they carried no factory stereo, Harman/Kardon or otherwise. The Street Glide's debut was about styling and fairing shape, not electronics.

Even with better speakers, a 2006 Harley-Davidson needs an aftermarket CarPlay head unit to actually run a phone — the Harman/Kardon name was about sound quality, not smartphone integration. Non-touring riders get their first display with a bar-mounted Media Screen. The Harman/Kardon speaker wiring stays fully intact on the touring swap, so the upgraded sound sticks around after the head unit changes.
