The 2006 Harley-Davidson FLHT Electra Glide Standard was the no-frills member of the touring lineup: full batwing fairing and hard bags, but no factory stereo, which is exactly why so many of these bikes ended up wearing a sidecar for long-haul duty over show-bike polish. Power comes from the carbureted Twin Cam 88, the last year Harley ran the 88-cube big twin before the Twin Cam 96 took over in 2007. That stereo-delete fairing leaves a blank cockpit — the HogPlay Media Screen fills it with real navigation and audio.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2006 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide with Sidecar (FLHT) left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

Harley built the Electra Glide Standard as the stripped-down FLHT option, sharing its chassis, fairing, and saddlebags with the Ultra Classic but skipping the Harman Kardon sound system and extra chrome. That bare-bones spec is a big reason 2006 Electra Glide with Sidecar rigs are so common: riders wanted the Twin Cam 88's low-end torque and a stable third wheel for hauling, not a stock stereo they would rarely use at speed. The catch is a cockpit with zero way to run turn-by-turn or stream music.
Installing the HogPlay Media Screen does not touch the fairing shell or factory harness — it clamps to the handlebar, wires straight to a switched power and ground source, and the mounting bracket is reversible, so it fits whether your bars sit stock or you have swapped in risers to compensate for sidecar pull.
The HogPlay Media Screen built for this 2006 FLHT Sidecar runs dual Bluetooth: pair your phone on one channel for wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and use the second to feed an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker for real volume. A small built-in speaker handles turn-by-turn voice prompts and light audio on its own. Every unit is fully sealed, waterproof, and rugged enough for sidecar miles in any weather.
