2000 Ultra Classic CarPlay: Harman/Kardon-Era Upgrade Path

The 2000 Ultra Classic name covers a wide spread — the base Ultra Classic, the export-only Ultra Classic With Sidecar (Japan), the Ultra Limited, and a pair of sidecar and Shrine variants. All six ran Harley's best factory audio of the era, and all six predate CarPlay by well over a decade.

About 2000 Harley-Davidson Ultra Models

Ultra trims got the nicest factory sound Harley offered in 2000 — Harman/Kardon-tuned speakers and a beefier amp behind the fairing — but the head unit underneath was still the same legacy AM/FM/weatherband tuner as the base Electra Glide, just fed through better hardware. The Ultra Classic Electra Glide with Sidecar (FLHTCUI) and plain Ultra Sidecar share that same deck, and even the Ultra Classic Shrine trim's extra chrome stopped well short of the dash electronics.

Because the fairing opening is identical across trims, an aftermarket CarPlay radio fits the whole Ultra range the same way, turning that Harman/Kardon speaker set into a real wireless CarPlay and Android Auto rig. Owners who'd rather leave the original face plate untouched can instead run a Media Screen off the bars, independent of the factory deck, whether that's on the Ultra Classic or the top-shelf Ultra Limited.
