About 1996 Harley-Davidson Road King Models

Road King in 1996 was built around a minimalist, detachable-windshield look rather than a full touring fairing, and that stripped-down approach carried over to the electronics: none of the three variants — Road King, Road King Police, or the FLHRI sidecar rig — left the factory with a stereo, speakers, or audio wiring installed anywhere on the bike, front or rear.

Because there's no factory dash opening to reuse, every 1996 Road King gets audio the same way: a bar-mounted HogPlay Media Screen bolts to the handlebar and adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto without any cutting or wiring into the fairing. It's the identical fix whether you ride the Police model or the sidecar version — compare it to the faired Electra Glide path, which works differently.
