The 2018 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy marked the biggest reinvention of this icon since it debuted in 1990 — an all-new Softail chassis, a monoshock rear end hidden under the seat, and a fat 160mm front tire wrapped around Harley's signature solid-disc wheel, all driven by the freshly launched Milwaukee-Eight 107 V-twin. It's a bike built for stripped-down, low-slung cruising, not touring electronics — no factory radio or screen ships on it. Bolt on the HogPlay Media Screen and this reborn Fat Boy finally gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2018 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

That 2018 redesign wasn't cosmetic — the Milwaukee-Eight 107 brought more torque, less vibration, and better cooling than the Twin Cam it replaced, while the new frame and suspension sharpened handling without softening the Fat Boy's muscular stance. It's still one of the most recognizable silhouettes on the road, built for open-road cruising with minimal clutter on the bars.
The HogPlay Media Screen fills the gap Harley left. The 7-inch display clamps to the handlebars, a power lead ties into a switched 12V source, and a ground wire completes the circuit — no dash cutting, no factory harness to splice into. The housing is reversible, so it mounts cleanly whether your bars sit high or low, and the whole unit comes off in minutes if you want the bars bare again.
Every 2018 Fat Boy CarPlay setup starts with the same HogPlay Media Screen — a screen that runs on dual Bluetooth so it can do two jobs at once. One channel pairs to your phone for wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto; the other feeds an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker for real volume on the highway. A small built-in speaker handles turn-by-turn prompts and light audio on its own if you'd rather keep things simple. The housing is fully sealed and waterproof, built rugged enough to shrug off rain, vibration, and everything else a Fat Boy sees on the road.
