The 2017 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Lo closes out the last model year before the Softail line's big redesign, wrapping the iconic solid-disc-wheel Fat Boy silhouette in a lower, blacked-out, drag-bar package built for riders who want the look without the reach. Power comes from the Twin Cam 103B, the counter-balanced 103 cubic inch V-twin that anchored Softail models through 2017. Like every Fat Boy Lo, it rolled off the line with no factory radio or infotainment - the fix is a bolt-on HogPlay Media Screen mounted right on the bars.
No Factory Radio — Add Your Own Screen
The 2017 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Lo left the factory with no radio, stereo or touchscreen to bypass — so instead of a workaround, you add your own. A standalone HogPlay Media Screen is a 7-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, live Maps & Waze navigation, calls and streaming built in — we recommend the Screen 7 Pro with its onboard DVR drive-cam. Most riders settle for Bluetooth-only kits that leave the phone in your pocket with no turn-by-turn directions; this puts it all on the bars instead. It mounts to the handlebars with basic power and ground and comes off just as easily, so reach out to the HogPlay team if you'd like a hand. (Media Box support on Screens is in development.)

Fat Boy Lo trimmed nearly two inches off standard Fat Boy seat height and swapped in a lower rear shock, drag-style handlebars, and murdered-out finishes on the engine covers, exhaust, and those signature solid wheels - a stripped, stealthy take on Harley's most recognizable Softail. The Twin Cam 103B underneath delivers the same broad, low-end torque the Fat Boy has always leaned on, just wrapped in a more compact stance that suits shorter riders and tighter city miles.
Since the 2017 Fat Boy Lo never came with a screen or built-in navigation, the HogPlay Media Screen fills that gap without touching the factory look. It clamps to the bars in the cockpit, wires straight to power and ground, and mounts reversibly so it works whether your controls sit high or low.
Every 2017 Fat Boy Lo can run wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto once the HogPlay Media Screen is on the bars, and dual Bluetooth is what makes it work on the road: one channel pairs to your phone for navigation and calls, the other feeds an auxiliary amp, handlebar speakers, or a portable Bluetooth speaker so you actually hear it over the pipes. A small built-in speaker handles turn-by-turn prompts and light audio on its own if you'd rather skip the extra gear. The whole unit is sealed, waterproof, and built to shrug off rain, road grime, and vibration ride after ride.
