2009 Harley-Davidson CarPlay Upgrade Guide

Bluetooth was creeping into car stereos by 2009, but not into Harley's lineup. A 2009 Harley-Davidson touring bike still ran plain AM/FM (Harman/Kardon on some trims), and Softail, Dyna, and Sportster models had no factory radio at all. 2009 touring models leaned on the same formula Harley had used for years: an AM/FM head unit, Harman/Kardon speakers on the higher trims, and nothing resembling a phone connection. Softail, Dyna, and Sportster models continued to ship with no factory stereo whatsoever, a full 13 years after the same was true of the 1996 lineup. Bluetooth streaming, when it eventually arrived on a Harley radio, was still a few model years away.

Nothing about that gap closes without aftermarket parts. A 2009 Harley-Davidson touring bike gets wireless CarPlay from an aftermarket head-unit swap, and non-touring models get their first-ever display from a bar-mounted Media Screen. Fitment holds steady across the whole touring range that year, whether it's an Electra Glide, Road King, or Road Glide sitting under the fairing, and none of it needs a single wire cut to install.
